Search stood down after pleasure boat debris found in Channel

A search is under way in the Channel after parts of a pleasure boat were spotted in the water off the coast of Hastings, Sky News understands.

HM Coastguard is coordinating a response after reports were received that parts of a vessel were found in waters south of the East Sussex resort town.

The alarm was raised at about 8.45am today.

A search and rescue helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft have been sent to the area, as well as the RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat from Hastings. Nearby vessels are also assisting.

HM Coastguard said in a statement: “Hastings RNLI all-weather lifeboat launched at 8.57am today after being tasked by HM Coastguard.”
