Man arrested after reports shots were fired outside cinema and shop in Liverpool

Armed police officers have launched a manhunt after shots were fired at a cinema and a small business.

Merseyside Police said that at about 8.50pm on Wednesday they received reports a firearm had been discharged in Showcase Cinemas on East Lancashire Road in the Croxteth area.

The incident came 20 minutes after shots were fired at a business on Lower House Lane.

The force said no-one was injured, and that while the event is not terrorist related, it is being treated as a major incident.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: “Armed officers and local policing officers are in the area and members of the public are advised to stay indoors whilst the incident ongoing.

“At this stage no-one has been injured. Anyone with information which could help the police should call 999.

“The incident is fast moving and we will provide a further update as soon as possible.”
