Cher files for conservatorship of her youngest son over fears about his drug abuse – reports

US

Cher has filed for a conservatorship of her youngest son over fears he can’t be trusted with his own money, according to reports.

In legal documents seen by the New York Post and celeb news site TMZ, the pop icon suggests Elijah Blue Allman is “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources”.

According to TMZ, the 47-year-old is entitled to regular payments from a trust set up by his late father and singer Gregg Allman, of the Allman Brothers Band.

Cher, who was married to Allman from 1975 to 1979, is said to fear he will spend all of his money on drugs due to alleged issues with his mental health and substance abuse.

Two of his siblings have reportedly nominated Cher to act as the conservator, which would put her in charge of her son’s financial and personal affairs.

A notorious example of one of these complex legal arrangements was that of Britney Spears, whose life was largely under the control of her father from 2008 until 2021.

That was put in place after Spears was said to have suffered mental health problems.

Cher ‘loves her son immensely’

Cher’s documents, which were filed on Wednesday, come after she denied allegations she had hired men to kidnap her son from a New York hotel room in November 2022.

The claims were made by his estranged wife Marie King, who he filed for divorce from in 2021.

Cher told People Magazine “that rumour is not true”.

The 77-year-old has also used the conservatorship filing to hit out at King, accusing her of not being “supportive of Elijah’s recovery” and working to keep him “from getting clean and sober”.

It adds Cher loves her son “immensely and has always acted with his best interests in mind”.

Cher also has an older son, 54-year-old Chaz Bono, who she had with her first husband Sonny Bono.
