Five Israeli men have been arrested in Cyprus after a British woman reported being raped, a police source has said.

The woman, who was on holiday on the Mediterranean island, said she was attacked at her hotel in the resort town of Ayia Napa on 3 September, the source told Reuters.

The 20-year-old alleged victim filed a complaint with police on Sunday evening.

A district court has issued orders meaning the men, who are aged 19 and 20, can be held in custody for eight days, the source said.

Last year, Cyprus’s Supreme Court acquitted a British woman who had been wrongfully convicted by a lower court of lying about being gang-raped by 12 Israeli men in July 2019.

The individuals arrested in that case were released and never prosecuted.
